Yesterday I had the opportunity to drive to an appointment 2hours+ away. I've had a really hectic week and still have some deadlines to meet by tomorrow, so the solitude was welcome. Just me and Anthony Robbins, God, that man speaks to me. If you haven't gotten into Anthony Robbins, one of the most renowned "life coaches" out there, you owe it to yourself. I was thinking yesterday that I wish everyone had 30 days to Personal Power. I will be posting more, I promise.
The Fall colors are beginning to pop and the corn is dry on the stalks and ready for harvest. It was a great day and I still love to drive my new car ~ affectionately known as my "big girl car." IS THIS HEAVEN? NOPE, IT'S IOWA !! (and please tell me you know where that is from)
Want more proof? The Des Moines Marathon is October 21st. They have extended open arms to all Chicago runners who want to do a marathon with water and support and about 5100 really nice runners. They are offering a discount if you were at Chicago and feeling unfulfilled. I will be there doing the HM. Yes, feet, be damned.

Even more proof necessary about our Heavenly Status?
Friends and uber-supportive bloggers, Tom and Amy, from, you guessed it, IOWA, have started the Runner's Lounge. This is a cool hangout for runners to connect, learn from each other, share what they've found out the hard way, etc. I even posted an article on what finally got me running regularly and keeps me motivated. The cool thing? They're friendly to ALL RUNNERs. Turtles, Penguins, Snails? All welcome. No cop car ushering you to the sidewalk saying, you've fallen behind the pace which we can support. :D Yes, I resemble that remark. Speaking of Penguins, did anyone see that Bingham just came out with a line of Penguin Technical Running Clothing??
Of actual running and PT. I dropped off the oldest at a birthday party Monday and did about 5 miles in a new area. I felt strong and very resourceful for my multi-tasking and getting in a run. Been resting the feet for two days. Hope to run sort of longish again today.
PT guy on Tuesday was complimentary of my Capital Pursuit run and cheered the 12 min pace. (His was about 8:30) We tried some interesting tape, gives one way but not the other. Supposed to create a little lift to the arches. It's bright pink and it seems to be working. I'm thinking of asking him for the whole role for some *other parts* that could use a lift!! PT is killing my quads, um, I mean going well. I'm working on finding my RUNNER BODY. :D

I always wondered where Iowa was. Now I know :-)
I'm off to check out John's "clothing line". Me thinks he's getting a bit commercial for my liking...
Ohhhh that's so cool that the Des Moines Marathon is giving a discount to those Chicago runners that didn't get to finish.
Ohhhh I'm going to have to check out JB's line. Thanks for the heads up!
Can have a whole bucket of that tape? I have a stomach and a chest that needs major lifting LOL
iowa may be heaven, but GOD'S COUNTRY is a little northeast of there. :)
Field of Dreams! Just about an hour north of my house yet I have never been. Good luck with the race and what a great gesture to the Chicago folks.
if you build it, they will come. I guess I can say if you pave it I'll run or bike it.
thanks for the link in the post, by the way. running speed drills is a good reminder that I should stick to endurance...
I love Field of Dreams! Pretty much any baseball movie I'm a sucker for! I love this time of year. The chilly mornings are the best.
I agree--that's fabulous that Iowa is being hospitable. I'm so disgusted about Chicago and so sorry for those runners.
Cranky
I think that you'll see a lot of other marathons trying to pick up some of the slack from Chicago. The Denver Marathon just announced free entry for Chicago runners who weren't able to finish. Primarily I think they are doing it for Colorado runners who went to Chicago as the announcement came pretty late, but still kind of cool.
Also, I thought IOWA stood for I Oughta Went Around? *Ducks and heads for cover*
;)
Someone already beat me to the Field of Dreams declaration, shoot.
I knew it was Field of Dreams before I finished the sentence...sad, huh?
Sounds like you and your PT are making some real progress with your feet. Nice! Keep it up and you will be ready for anything.
How awesome that they are offering support to Chicago Marathon folks.
Thx for the link to JBs new line. I like the "I'm Slow, I know, Get over it"
Man! We have so much in common! #1 I am working on my runner body too #2 I just drove thru Iowa last week on my way to Nebraska and I think Iowa people are uber nice too :) #3 I too have had a hectic week and #4 Anthony "tony" Robbins totally ROCKS!! I read your blog often and it is so inspirational. Yes, let's support one another :)
That is one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite movies. I'm going to visit Iowa some day, just so I can annoy people by asking if it is heaven. Best of all, I can probably set up all kinds of "run dates" in Dubuque and Des Moines.
I'm also going to visit Chicago some day to see if it is as bad as my friends from there claim.
the scary thing about my number fascination is that I have two super-super liberal arts degrees...
hope work isn't treating you too badly.
I'm back to reading the end of Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer for some tips to get through the taper..
Glad y'all are getting some "popping" colors in Iowa. Here in Richmond, VA, it has been so dry that the leaves are going quickly from green to brown. Still, Fall smells were in the air this morning -- and the 47° felt great this morning.
Thanks for the comments on my blog.
ahhh ... i love those drives. when you just soak in your surroundings. i call those days my "i love kentucky days".
thats awesome that the DesMoines marathon is being so accomodating to the Chicago runners ... i've been so heartsick for everyone who had such an awful time.
and that runner's body? if you work at it, it will come.
You almost make me what to move cross country to Iowa. But when I think of having to empty the atic to do so, FORGET IT! I am going to die in this house and leave that chore to one of my loving children. Heck, most of the stuff in the atic is theirs anyway so that's fair. Right?
i was in iowa a month ago to drop of my cousin in grinnell. it was the best week ive had in a long time! I just loved it..maybe because it was summer ;)
Oh you Iowans are just the best. We Michiganders are not nearly as friendly, but I would like to think that I am the exception to that. Is Iowa looking to adopt and if so what would I need to do???
Awww..your post made me really wish for fall colors! We don't really have fall here! I love the runner's lounge!!
Hello non-runner (as if!) Nancy. I got to your blog through Lisa's. I've seen your posting before, but today actually had a moment to check out some new people. I think you are doing great! I will be watching to see how your half marathon goes next week. I have one the weekend after, so I'm scrambling on my training again, as usual. I will also try to check out the runner's lounge.
Way to go Des Moines! I like that other races are doing something positive for the Chicago runners, since the Chicago organizers are very quiet!
So glad to hear you are making some progess with your PT and his tape! It sounds like *magic* tape! I want some!
Nancy,
Thanks for the shoutout to the site! We get more excited everyday on the cool runners we are meeting.
I am so excited for DSM marathon even though this is the first year I am not running it. - but we will be there to cheer you on! Your feet are going to love it.
I want to hear more about the taping - the orthopedic suggested taping for my son's feet and I want to see it in action and hear more about it from someone who is doing it before I try it.
Take care,
Amy

I've been to Iowa and yes, it's a bit of heaven here on earth. The Field of Dreams is pretty cool. Been there too. They should do a race from Dyersville to the field. How many miles is that?
Iowa has "The Field of Dreams" and now they have "The Final Sesaon". That's some baseball state.
