Just Try

.25m ~ 10m ~ 3m

Do you remember just a few short days ago when I was answering questions about whether or not a tri was in my future, and I said I thought I needed some more time? Well apparently I need about 10 days. :P

bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb

Just a little lesson. When you make sort of absent claims or statements.... be prepared for the earth to rotate just enough that the stars align and the improbable becomes for really reals in a hurry.

bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb

So Java and I are chattin and she says something like, "no, no, do it now, you are ready, you should try it," and I say, "well, I'm really not equipped with the whole bike thing like I should be if I'm going to do a tri. If I could find a nice short safe indoor one, I think I'd do it in a heart beat." yep, I said that. And, you guessed it. A nice short safe indoor tri appeared, compliments of Amy. omg.omg.omg.what.have.i.done?omg.omg.omg.omg.

I'm scared, nervous and excited, but then I figured, it's not like life or death here, right? This will be fun, especially with Amy. It's about a mile or two from my house, in the pool I was doing some laps at!! You can schedule it to your own convenience during the week. And it's $25 for St. Jude's Hospital, for heaven's sake. How can I not do this, right? (it's like Marcy with free shipping and a coupon code, how can you not?) Let's just see if I can do all the legs and have some fun. (.25m swim, 10m bike, 3m run) I seriously don't even know if I CAN run 3 miles after 10 on the bike...omg.omg.omg.

My hub first said, "COOL!" and then said, "well, maybe this one is more of a 'TRY' " :D You got that right.

I signed up and the gal said there were quite a few "competitors." **GULP*** omg.omg. I told her I was more of a "participant" :P

So, tri-stars, what should I be doing for the next 10 days?? HELP!!!! omg.omg.omg.

LOL!! We'll win you to the dark side yet! Nancy... I am your father... :-D I wouldn't do anything but taper. It's really too late to train for it. Just do it and have fun. For most folks, the worst part is the swimming, and you got that licked. I know you are going to do well!!

K80K said...

Not a tri-er myself, but I just wanted to say you are going to do awesome! Good luck and enjoy the experience. :)

I'm so excited for you! I really want to "try" to find a short indoor tri myself sometime.

You're gonna do great!

Tri+Umph said...

You got it in the bag, Nancy!

Given your worries, maybe do one bike-run brick beforehand just for the psychological benefit?

Sarah said...

I agree with Wes, just go for it! To be honest, I didn't train for my first at all, with the exception of a run base. You'll do great!

I don't have any advice for you but you can so do this! It is going to be fun! So exciting!!!
Plus such a great charity. That's who I raised money for my first marathon.

What are you gunna do?!?!

:-D

1.) Buy Total Immersion
2.) Get some Triathlete books from the library. Pick your fav. training plan (which can be as fun as picking out shoes if you really get into it)
3.) "Wow" us a little bit more :-)

You're amazing Nancy :-)!!!!

Yeah!!! You're going to be so hooked. If so, It's Lisa's fault. hehe.

Seriously, you'll be fine. I didn't train for my first one except some running. I did no bike/run combo and walked most of the 3 miler, but I didn't care. if you really like it, train for your next one. You're gonna do fantastic!!!!

Midwest said...

Yay, Nancy! I'm proud of you and excited for you.

Oh awesome! Good luck with this! I am sure you will do fantastic.

My goal is to show the rest of the "competitors" how to "participate" in style.

My tip - over the next few days, do a few short rides on the bike (maybe 20-30 minutes) and then jump off and do 5-15 minutes on the treadmill. A bike/run workout is called a "brick" for a reason - but your legs adapt pretty quickly and you will feel strong through that run.

And we are doing it just to have fun. we will crawl those 33 laps if we have to.

kate said...

omgomgomgomg that's awesome! My old gym used to do this but I never had the guts to try it. I have no doubt you're going to rock this!

L*I*S*A said...

AWESOME!!! I'm so proud. You'll do a great job, and I know you'll love it.

Bill Carter said...

Hi Nancy

I know I can't help you with this one because these Carter legs stay on dry ground... out of necessity. Seriously though, you are going to do just fine.. you are a runner first and foremost and that gives you a HUGE advantage over the Tri people.

Moon said...

WOWEE, Nancy! You are like my hero or something! While I keep thinking a tri might be fun to attempt...someday...that's nothing like actually signing up for one. You go, girl! :)

Laura said...

I absolutely love the "participant" line. But don't worry, you will totally do great!!! I've been saying I wanted to do a tri for more than a year now, but still haven't gotten the courage/energy to actually sign up and train.

Andria said...

Oh my word, you are funny! I love that you are a participant and not a competitor. You'll do great!

Neese said...

WOW!!!! :-o You will be so happy when you complete this, you so can do it, and just finish girl my guess is you won't regret it!

Brianna said...

Ah . . . life is what happens when you are busy making other plans! You have to just roll with what life puts in front of you - and know that when the timing is right, the right experiences just lay down in front of you and say, "Here I am!" Congrats on this new goal and all the best for an awesome experience! I can't wait to read how it goes for you!

Sonia said...

woohoo! This is going to be awesome! I'm rooting for ya! =)

I agree--a brick/run would be a good thing for you so you can be used to the rubber legs you'll have after the bike...but you are SO ready for this. Hope it's a lot of fun!

Nitmos said...

Heck, yeah! Get busy livin'! Do you have something better than your first tri to do that day?!

jahowie said...

Very cool!! I know you can do it!!! I can't wait to read the race report.

Laura N said...

Sarah said...

Awwww...good luck! That's awesome that you are going to do this!! : )

Jess said...

I suggest you hire someone to do to for you. That's what I would do :)

Kidding. You'll do great, but I know nothing about tri-training so I can't help with any advice.
