So Many Lessons


Lesson for Wednesday ~ I am NOT a skilled athletic trainer, so taping my arches was NOT a very good idea.

I ran about .4 mile to the inlaws, stopped to cut some slack in the tape. Played with the new puppy for a few minutes. Ran about 3 blocks, sat down on a rock outside some apartments and worked on giving more slack. Gutted out about .75 before I found an office complex with a nice picnic area where I sat down and removed all the tape. By this time, I have wasted so much time, that everyone is due home from work/school. Ran the mile home.

Very disappointing run. And I looked so good, too. I guess that tells you how much the outfit really matters!! :^) I think I will call this a failed experiment and try to repeat the run today. I'm really tired and achy, I hope I can get through it.

I tried taping myself once too and I ended up pulling it all off a short way into the run.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I will have to keep up with yours. That bondiband is great. I just bought a Buff (like on Survivor) that is for running and has 3m reflective on it. I do a lot of my running at night, when it is not so hot.

Oh, man. We've all tried crazy stuff, but the good part is now you know what not to do. Don't tape so tight!

I still think the well coordinated outfits make a big difference. :)

My wife has just started reading The Non-runner's Guide and she will be running a half-marathon here in GA in February. Hope it works well for you--good luck. We used to get our ankles taped every day for football in High School--then in college I played football and rugby and never taped my ankles once. Didn't notice any difference :)

I'm sorry it didn't work for you, but I have just learned a valuable lesson. I get sore arches myself and now know not to try and tape mine. On the other hand, all of us who blog with you are again in your debt for sharing. I have done so many things wrong in my short running career I could write a book on what not to do. Hmm...

Ah, the lessons, them seem to always be never ending!!! Learn one and another pops up or, better yet, you repeat the mistake and have learn the lesson again!

Keep up the good work. You've done the Half Marathon distance so now it is just down to logistics...

Look at this way. 1) you ran even if it was a short distance and 2) you know that taping doesn't work. I think it was a productive day!

Taping feet is an art. You can learn how. Don't be discouraged :-)

I take it that the new orthotics you got are not helping? Maybe you need to try another orthopedis and see about custom orthotics. I'm sure there is a solution out there, it's just a matter of trying everything until you find it. At least you gave the taping a try. Stay with it and you will find a way.

I am with Jamie. One more notch on the lessons of running that you have accomplished. "Must remember to leave taping to the professionals," check. Keep your spirits up -- you are continuing to show on a regular basis that you can run through adversity or tough conditions. That will prove well in the later miles of the marathon whether it be full or half.

I don't know about arches, but taping ankles takes a little practice but once you get it right you'll be good to go...

Hang in there Nancy. At least you looked good. Remember the old Saturday Night Live bit? "It's better to look good than to feel good". :D I admire the energy and creativity you are putting into your running. Oh and the fashion sense!

Practice makes perfect, keep working at the taping if you think it is helpfel and you will get it figured out. As much as it might be nice, who gets things right the first time? Anything of value is worth working on.

Looking good/great in cute running outfits will keep your cover while you are learning, as everyone seeing you will think someone dressed as fab as you are MUST be a proffesional!
