I have done a 5 mile run and an 8 mile run. They don't actually DO the run for you (I heard the new Garmin is actually going to!) but they do seem to be helping. Some stiffness and soreness, but no 90 year-old hobbling.
I haven't posted any splits in ages because they have been so dismal, even for the slowest turtle in the pack. I could barely stand to look at them, let alone commit space and have to stare at them in the blogosphere.
I decided for the fiver that I was going to try to pick it up a bit and see if I could last through the whole run. I definitely felt like I was running with somewhat of a runners gait more so than the usual shuffling. :P These I will actually claim, but only because you people are so nice and supportive no matter how slow I am. :)

The eight wasn't as fancy, I keep getting a nasty side stitch on my long runs and it has been killing me, both on time and then by the time it is gone, it has worn me out. Anyway, I still managed 8, and I AM NOT HOBBLING. Progress is good.

Isn't it wonderful to run without pain? Very cool. If you can get one or two long runs in, you still have a shot at the marathon. Just make sure to listen to your body. You are smart to leave open the possibility of doing the half if you aren't ready.
I am very excited for you that you are getting back on your feet so to speak. That is great news!
sounds like you are really back on track!!hang in there you are doing well. I almost did not get into the Army years and years ago because they said my feet was flat but somehow when I walked like a duck they decided they were not. I do have very low arches though but some how I manage to run pretty well with them.

Comebacks are wonderful things. It's great when you go from wondering if you will ever get back to normal to realizing you are on your way.
I started as a non-runner, too. I bought the book for my husband. He didn't read it, but I did. I used the plan in 2005, and started out using it again last year, but switched to the Higdon novice plan. One day after an 18 mile run, I decided maybe I was a runner after all.

Nice work! I know how frustrating trying to run with foot problems can be. It is very exciting when you don't hobble or have pain anymore!
Nancy you are the coolest. You've got an amazing toughness about you that even (I think) exceeds that of the most dedicated runners.. You just find a way to perservere.
By the way, I think those splits are pretty awesome. Alot of people swear by orthotics (my wife does) and I know these new ones will make a huge difference.
I would be proud to run with you anytime. I mean it.

There you go... At least the foot problem seems cured up, now you have to put up with those annoying stictches and side cramps. Unfortunately, there isn't a shoe insert for this one (I wish there was!)
I totally want to try that kind of a bra!! They are so pricey though..bleck.
