Race Prep for 10k on the 10th

Have you:

g picked a 6.2 mile route (or how you might do your split if you are doing another race?)

g chosen a sexy Cavey outfit?

g picked up a sabertooth tiger necklace?

g chosen a hawt primordial pacer?

g let the body hair grow?

g thought about what your caveman name is? (sorta like your stripper name?)

g got your club ready?

Well, all I really need is for you to email me your time once you've run and posted a race report (nothing elaborate required but I will link to your report). The baubles are just for fun and growing your body hair is really at your own discretion. :D (no pics of this please!!) I do want to leave you with some thoughts.

The background on these virtual races is that I ran a HM last October and then struggled to keep motivated. 8 on the 8th of December was just an idea to put a made-up race on the calendar to keep me/us training - it came out of a suggestion I made to Vickie. We were joined by about 50 or 60 wonderful bloggy friends and the virtual race was born. We've also done 9 on the 9th: Sweetheart Shuffle. We had some really Lasting Lovers among our Romeos and Sweethearts. 10k on the 10th: Virtual Club Run is virtual race #3. I hope it gets you out there or gives you a break in the training or just something fun to look forward to knowing that many of us will be out there together.

The club and all of us uniting are the main inspirations for this race. I discovered my "club" one day when negative thoughts started flowing during my run as they often can, and I was successful at beating them back one by one. I emerged a little stronger that day mentally and feeling like a toughie Cavegirl carrying a club. Of course I picked one with a really cute outfit to depict this. :D Millions (or maybe a few of my most loyal readers) have carried the club running, biking, to the pool for laps when the baddies threatened to ruin their workout. Cavegirl has also been spotted on occasion. hee hee

Please keep the club in mind and use it whenever you need it. (as you can see from my blog, I believe that this can spill into other areas of your life and is one of the things that I am constantly working on. I'm thrilled to have so much help and support both at home and with bloggy friends) I'd love for you to celebrate during this race -- the power of the mind to be positive and combat the crapola that we can come up with -- and when the club fails, the power of your blogging buddies (your other club) to pull you up outta the muck. CAVEPEOPLE UNITE!! Y

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Speaking of bloggy friends helping you out. I've had two miserable runs this week and was a little concerned about the long run. I had a fantastic run with Amy and Art on Friday. 12.1 heavenly miles. Amy picked us out an old RR Track trail that has been paved. 12 miles of flatness. The forecast was ominous but somehow we got a window of perfection. Not only that, the considerable wind was behind us the entire way. We decided it felt like the hand of God. The conversation was lively as usual and we had a blast. (except for the bastard gatorade bandit who raided one of our drops.) Amy even arranged for her Hub to be on call in case one of us (read that me) needed a sag wagon (our cars were 12 miles away!!) Thank, Jim! We all made it and for me it was record time. Thanks for one of my most favoritest runs!!

I'll have to tell you next week about the package I got......

I'll check in this week from Harvard if I have time. Hope to get some runs in while I'm there.

I want to run with you and Amy and Art and whomever one day. Glad you had a great run. I'm all set, and think I am running on Saturday. This is going to be "character building" as it's a small race and I'm preparing to be dead last. :) I have a club.

So package is code for male-crotch at our house. "Remind me to tell you about my package..." made me guffaw. Apparently I am in touch with my inner 12 year old today. :)

Can I still pick a pacer even if I'm not running?!

Sounds like you're getting into better spirits.

Looking forward to the race next weekend, but can we please do something about the non-existant aid stations???

I'm going to do it! When you announced it I couldn't run 10K but now I can.

I'll be doing it on the 9th tho as I have a race on the 11th. :)

Ummmmm. I musta missed that K thing on the end of the 10, cause I did 10 miles for my early bird special :-) Oops. Silly me! Oh well, my pacer didn't mind shakin her money maker in a nice cave girl skin :-D

Have a great week at Harvard!

You're the best/most active race director :)

I have my route picked out!

Working on the body hair will be easy, I just won't shave my lefts for a few days. LOL.

Maybe I need a cavewoman name. Gotta' think about that one...

Have a great week at Harvard, Nanc!
Looking forward to the 10K. Great post about the club and all that it symbolizes.
I am super happy for your fantastic run with Amy & Art. You deserve it plus many more :-D

Have fun at Harvard. I'm sure you'll find some great places to run while you are there.

I'm ready for the 10K on the 10th! Route is picked out, and I will remember the club! :)

Hey Nancy, as I am in my taper for the Delaware Marathon, I hope my time for the Broad Street Run today will do. 1:49:59, 10:11 pace, 10 miles.

Whoa whoa whoa. 10...K? Why was I thinking 10 MILES? That's awesome! I ran 10 miles yesterday and thought to myself the whole time "ugh, I'm really out of shape and don't know if I can do well on 10 MILES two Saturdays in a row". 6.2'll be a piece of cake, relatively speaking. Good luck, and have a great trip!

SO SO glad you had a great run!

I have a 5k on mother's day, but I may be able to do the 10k on the Friday, is that okay? (I know you'll say yes, but I'm just checking anyway!)

Glad you had a great long run! I'm doing the Ladies Run 11K on the 12th, not sure if the ladies would appreciate the body hair thing, but I will be sure to be carrying my "inner club"! Have fun in Boston!

I got rained out on Saturday. It cleared up long enough for me to walk the dog.

I am having trouble finding a 6.2 mile course, but I have all week to find it!

zanne said...

you've got to run along the Charles River while you are there ... went to school in Boston (not Harvard!) & it was my fvorite place to run. i will live vicariously through you! have a great trip!

Nitmos said...

Let me tell you, I am so glad I looked more carefully at this post. All along, I thought it was 10 MILES on the 10th and I was worried - post Boston - if I was up for that. A 10k? No problem and much more mangeable.

I'll be out on Sunday and will email the results. Thanks again, Nancy! And good Luck.

I'll have to run on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to this. :-)

Hi, Nancy.

I don't know if I'll be able to to the 10 on the 10th after all. I hurt myself during my HM yesterday (see my blog for details - but I DID finish!!) so I can't run for a few days. If I'm still hurting this next weekend, I'll have to drop out. :-(

Vickie said...

Nancy, I'll be in for 10k on the 10th, but since I am doing a 25k, it will be more like 2 10ks on the 10th, with a 5k cooldown.

Michelle said...

I'm in Nancy! Route is picked out! Love ya for doing this, it really is giving me the motivation to run more mileage!! Thanks my friend!

I'm hoping I can do the race. I had planned on it but now I'm going to be out of town and just don't know if I will be able to do it :o(

You're so darn cool Nancy :-). It's an honor to wield a club in the company of such fine runners!

Totally pumped for the 10k. And it's a great excuse to not shave my legs for a few days (as if I needed an excuse)! :P

Sarah Kathryn said...

Foot permitting, I'm in! I have my last scheduled race for a while on the 11th but it's only a 5k. I don't think they'll let me run that twice, LOL. (I'll be too busy eating anyway).

Good luck to all, and thanks for being a super race director, Nancy!

By the way, I'm all caught up on your blog - what a great time you must have had in FL!! You look so relaxed and - as always - pretty!

The Laminator said...

I normally don't like to race on consecutive weeks, but for you, Nancy, sure, why not. Now if only I can find a course that can hide a club...

P.O.M. said...

Can't wait... gotta think of a good name :) And dno't worry, I've been growing out the leg hair for a couple months - hey why shave when you don't have a boyfriend?
Ok, I'm totally kidding. I definately had to "handle that" for the pool party.

You're races are so fun! Glad to finally be able to participate in one :)

Mendy said...

Yeah.... I'm looking forward to it. It will by my recovery day run. I'll be doing mine on Sunday, since I have a tri sat. I LOVE these virtual races.

I was telling my training buddy that I have a race sunday, and she was like "What". I said it's a "virtual race". She's like, uh... ooo---kay.?

So much fun!!!! Now I need to think of my stripper name.

Should be all set for my first post-marathon 10k on Saturday.

I'm in! I got a little too motivated for this one and ran it on the 10th of April! Posted about it and couldn't figure out why no one was posting to your site. A wonderful blogger, Marathon Mama, informed me I was a wee bit early for the race! (Since I already finished, does that mean I won??) ; )

I'm in Nanc...thats my longrun day so 10K plus will be ON like Donkey Kong--haha had to steal that from J-Mom :-)

Sonia said...

Because of Dr's order I cannot run more than 5K at a time, so I will do 5 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday... stupid plantar fascitiis I hate you!!

I'm still thinking about what my cavename will be!!

I think I'll have to be there in spirit as I have to go out of town this weekend. It's always something, but one day I'll do this! I'm already feeling an 8 on the 8th of 08/08/08.

Sorry Nancy ... I had to can the 10K. It didn't work out for me this time. I just couldn't push myself and risk injuring my knee more, prior to my half next weekend! I will be a cheer leader for everyone though!

I will be ready for something in June or July , as I will need something to train for!

Hey, Nancy. I did my 10K on the 10th in a crazy race that was 5.5 miles (race organizers way underestimated the course), but I kept going to 6.22 (by myself--everyone else stopped at the finish! Does that make me first?) My race report is at www.themommyminute.blogspot.com. Thanks for organizing this! I might not have gotten out there otherwise. Oh yeah, my time was 1:00:10, a PR by over two minutes!!
