Not good but who can complain?

Checking in...

I did run 4 miles up and down the strip upon arrival..... from the Palazzo all the way down to Xcalibur and back. I was going to take a poll about why it possibly sucked more than any miles I've done lately. Was it the weaving, gawking, staggering tourists who kept getting in my way, the 8 or 9 sets of 30 stairs I nearly died on or perhaps the lack of fueling? On the way here, the flight attendants asked if anyone is allergic to cats. I have no idea what this means, however, when I got here, everywhere on my legs had a rash. I'm guessing it has to do with the new pants and everywhere they touched me??? but who knows. I didn't have any cat in my pants and I don't think that had anything to do with the run, but the rash makes my legs feel like they are on fire.

Turns out, Topher reminded me that running on the street makes quite a difference after several runs and several months on treadmill. Thanks for reminding me, it made it seem slightly less sucky.

I didn't get too upset - all the splits were abysmal, but I did the miles and after all, the scenery was beautiful and the temp swing from this morning in Des Moines was from minus three to 57 -- I'll take it, even if the run is not good.

Super special shout out to my friend LeAnn who is looking for motivation, a working mom like me, and just a doll. She's a runner and I encouraged her to check out my and you guys' blogs. Let's hear about some miles, LeAnn!!

Go LeeAnn... run run run! Run for cake!

Are you sure you didn't have a cat in your pants? Maybe a tiger???

I did a treadmill run yesterday. Still don't like them. But I to was amazed how different it is. Here's to running outside without freezing our patooties off!

Four miles in Vegas sound fabulous, no matter the suckage :-) Kudos to you for taking advantage of it!!

How bout that mileage LeeAnn??

What could be bad about 57 degrees and running on the strip.

Maybe you stopped at a black jack table along the way and forgot to stop your watch?

Hi Nancy

I actually started laughing when I read about your run. We go to Vegas pretty much every year and I of course go on runs through the obviously drunk, oblivious tourists. The funniest things are the looks you get as if to say "Are you running because you just robbed a casino or something??" For such a great majority of people, they would never think to run for exercise or enjoyment.

I agree that there is certainly a difference between the treadmill and pounding the pavement.. and I can't wait to get back outside.

Sending you the positive vibes from snowbound Michigan.

What a neat place to run though? I mean that's a great change in pace and might make you enjoy your peaceful runs at home even more!

Yay to get out and get that run done! Now go have some true Vegas fun!

Nice job with the Vegas run. When I have gone to Vegas, I've found it easier to run on the streets that are behind the casinos on the strip rather than on the strip itself. Very few people walking around on that side. Even better is if you have a car to get away from the strip altogether and run on some of the beautiful trails they have around the city. This is a perfect time of year for it to. Enjoy!!

4 miles is still 4 miles in my book. Bonus points for running the Vegas strip.

LeeAnn - let's hear about that mileage!

Here, here....Topher hit it right on. The treadmill is a different animal than the hard, usually unforgiving street. Remind yourself what most Americans were doing while you were slogging through those 4 miles and keep the chin up!

I blame the stairs!

Running in Vegas is not easy with all those congested sidewalks and stairs. Way to go! Plus I am sure it's nice to be outside after this LONG winter :)

hey. you are in vegas. its' 57 degrees. and you ran 4 miles. from my current, non-running vantage point - that looks pretty dreamy!

As long as you're spending your time in Vegas running and not high on crystal meth and whoring yourself out, I imagine that's a good thing, no matter the time.

Thats true.. the treadmill is nothing like the street. Kudos getting out in Vegas!

I can't believe you actually ran in Vegas! You soooo rock Nancy!! Actually now that I think of it, it actually would be kinda cool to run there. The sites, the people . . .

Nice job running outside. That has to be a fun run with all of the sites. Have fun out there!!

I think changes in temp are tough to manage--good for you for getting some miles in!

I am allergic to cats hence my asthma, doc. Anyway, it's better to get out and do a few bad miles then none at all, right? You betcha!

Yeah, I'd dig 4 miles on the vegas strip but I can see where crossing the streets and avoiding the people touristing (how dare them) can get in the way. But, glad you got the miles in and what a pleasant temp too.

Hi LeeAnn!!! Run for chocolate too!

Good job on getting your run in Nancy! Trade you Vegas and the tourists for cold and snowy Ottawa!!

Way to go! LeeAnn, one foot in front of the other...you'll get it done! WOOOO HOOOO!!!

Lee Ann here.....already thankful for the motivation to run! I'm in Vegas with Nancy, and I'm ashamed to say I didn't bring my running clothes (how much does Nancy rock for being so dedicated?).......but I make you a promise--I'll do miles on Friday!!!

I got out there and did something Nancy!! the sucky ones comes and goes. enjoy all the ones in between. I sure you're all your friend LeeAnn needs for motivation.

Sorry about the rash, Nancy.. I wonder if a cat escaped from the belly and jumped all over the plane before you all boarded. Doing four miles and tourists dodging sounds like you deserve a round of applause. I would be stuck in some smokey keno lounge..lol!

Go LeeAnn, get those miles going
:-) I would run in dress clothes and flip flops to hang with Nancy and get 4 done with.

Sorry about the rash. And thanks for liking my pictures.

My next trip is to Vegas too in April. Are there any good running routes you can recommend...that is, assuming I can get back to running by then...Sigh!

ok, guys, I want to be the first one to congratulate Nancy on the "hardware" she won tonight at our annual awards banquet....she won our VPMC award--a very highly regarded award. I yelled and clapped for all of y'all when they called her name! Yea Nancy!!!

Amy said...

Nancy, congratulations on your award and just let me say, four miles on the Strip sounds fabulous, no matter how slow! When we were out there last summer with Jenny and Mark, Mark ran out towards (and way past) that outlet mall just past the airport. Another good place to run would be Red Rock Canyon just outside of town - it's got a great loop road.

the cat question baffles me. I'd take a bad run in Vega$ versus a good run in the midwest right now. I'm jealous!

Abysmal splits and a cat in your pants? This post could not have made me laugh any harder! :)

As the Queen of Sucky Runs I can say - miles are miles. PERIOD. Nice job cruising the strip, at any pace! :)

Congratulations on the run.
Hope you give us a report on the new pants that may have caused a rash. Scary.
