Did you say 12 years?

I'm back in the pool, People!

After ~12 years away, and reading about several of you training in the pool, I got the bug to swim some serious laps. My MIL, who is the best MIL anyone could ask for, got me a 7 day pass to her pool. Then I will decide if I am going to join this place for just a swim pass - we already have a gym membership through my hub's work, but the place doesn't have a pool and it is hard to justify joining another.

I've often thought I should do tri's since the swimming would be my strongest part and that seems to be where some people struggle. Well, we'll see on that one (I still have a fear of being run over and killed while training on the bike :P), but for now, I'm enjoying building up strength and endurance in a new setting.

I dug out an old Speedo racer suit and some goggles. In truth it took me about 15 seconds to find. Crap! Now I really have to give it a try!! After I got over the initial shock of shimmying into that suit, it wasn't too bad.

Sunday - Swim - 1.2 miles
Monday - Swim - 1 mile ( OH. MY. SHOULDERS. ARE. SORE.)
Tuesday - Run - 1 single mile - 10:44 - I only had time for one but that is smokin for me :D
Wednesday - Swim - 1 mile ( even tried an IM!!) I'm doing a mile in about 33 minutes
Thursday - OFF

We had a great little valentine dinner with the kids, "tapas" that was little white castle's, wings, mac/cheese, chicken nuggets, etc in cute little pans. Thanks, Honey, for making it special for us and thanks for the last 7 years. We met 7 years ago on a blind date on Valentine's Day!!

Hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day.

Thanks again for participating in the race. I haven't posted in a while because I like to let the Race Results "sit" for a bit. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the race and the report. You've maybe noticed it has been updated a few times and more results came in. jkrunning, Tom, cewtwo, and slb+ have all been added.

Cool Valentine design by my friend Gretchen at heArt-a-day!!

Whoa! That's some nice swimming! Who was the cutie in the picture?

Let me get this straight. You haven't been swimming in 12 years. You came out and did 2000 meters your first day back. You do a mile in 33 minutes. Just damn :-)

Riding the bikes on race days is very safe. It's the training when you need to be very observant. Having bike trails helps alot!!

Nicely done, Nancy!! We will win you over to the dark side yet!! :-D

Good for you Nancy!!

A pool and gym facility is being built in the area where I work so I'm looking forward to hitting the pool too, however, I won't be wearing a two piece like you! Very brave...

Awesome! I bet you'll be signing up for your first tri before long. Specially with workouts like that!

Very nice job with the swimming! That's pretty impressive for not doing any in a very long time.

You might want to find out if there are any indoor triathlons near you. Some gyms offer them from time to time with the swim, bike and run being as far as you can go in the pool, on a stationary bike, and on a treadmill in a defined amount of time. We have some out here. You won't have to dodge any cars...just the bodybuilders. ;-)

GO NANCY!!! Uh ohhhhh, do I see a future triathlete? I TOTALLY hear you on the fear of the bike though, I'm the same way. Me + Open Road + Bike = DISASTER LOL Don't let Wes con you into the dark side :P

You're a real swimming machine! Good job at the pool =) If it wasn't such a hasle to get there (I don'T own a car) I would definitely want to get in the whole swimming thing.

Nice work on the swimming and the smokin' fast mile! Congratulations on the 7 years, too. I just have to ask... can you have love at first sight on a "blind" date?

See, I need to hire someone like you to do the swim length, I'm all good with the biking and running. Oye, SO STOKED you were able to hop on the saddle (or in the speedo) and have a positive return to swimming.

Maybe I should follow suit... now where are those water wings?

Nancy, you're a sweetheart for posting my heart art. :) I was just talking this morning at Curves about how I couldn't wait for it to be summer and the outdoor pool to open (it's a block away from my house). I don't swim laps, but I LOVE being in the water and sun.

Oh great, now you're gonna be a star swimmer, too. How will I be able to resist your charms???

Get this, the Cap sent flowers and choc covered strawberries to my hotel room! I didn't even know he knew how to do stuff like that. ha ha.

Have a great weekend.

Okay Little Mermaid....nice swim!!

I just have to say that I am adamantly opposed to any sport that requires me to squeeze into a swimsuit :P

Awesome job. I haven't been swimming ... or tried swimming ... since I was like 5 years old.

Wow, even when I WAS swimming regularly, I don't think I ever did more than a mile in one shot. Impressive!!!

Good for you, Nancy! I think I'd drown if I tried to swim like that.

And happy Valentine's anniversary! My husband and I have established Valentine's Day as the unofficial anniversary of when we met (since we don't know the actual date and it was around then some time). 14 years!

Oh MY! I'm with Wes. You haven't been swimming in that long and did over a mile. Wow! I'm very impressed. I have been swimming for a while now and still haven't made it to that distance.

Yeah, you should really do a tri. I have a fear of the bike too, but like Wes mentioned, race day is safe. The others are not and that's what I use my trainer for.

Good job Nancy!!!!
