Back Away From the Bowl

Back away from the bowl, Nancy!!
I put on my running clothes at 7:30am.
It's now 1pm and I have not gotten myself out the door.
It's so windy and cold.
What is wrong with me?
I. Have. To. Run. Today.
Editor's note:
I did it. Every step kind of sucked but I did it - about 40 minutes of shuffling and hacking. A friend made me realize that some people would love to be out there and can't be, so I decided, I should run because I can and FOR those who can not. (mainly I was thinking of Kent and Doug who have been sidelined with nagging injuries.) I laughed because at the pace I was going, both would probably be appalled and say, "don't bother" but hey, it was as much for me as it was yous guys. And, it's better than the couch and another handful of chex mix. And, it kept me going. I couldn't let the fellas down. Thanks, boys!!
The 40 minutes included time spent helping a lady corral her dog that was chasing ME. Was it a good deed for the day or self-preservation? Not sure, but it didn't piss me off, in fact it made me smile. He was a little sheltie, big dog wanna be.
I ran today.
Because. I. Can.

LOVE chex mix. My aunt and granny always have that crap out at every 'event.'

Thanks for the proposal. No prenup, right?

well, I'm a little jealous of your run too.

so, I bought cereal today and stared at a bowl of it. I need to put it into a bowl cause otherwise I'd eat the whole box. No milk, no spoon, though. I know that makes you want to come fix breakfast for me.

I absolutely love chex mix. I make my sister make me a batch everytime I go home (that way its not in my house).

Good for getting out there because you can.

Man I haven't had Chex Mix in Forever!!! I think I need to reintroduce it into my life!

Thats a great way to look at it, Nancy.

Thanks a ton, you rock! It doesn't matter how fast you're going, just that you're out there!

Just checking your blog today, I can say, YOU ARE A RUNNER....

I would love to do the 8 on the 8th. But I will arrive to Thailand at 11 pm on the 7th, after a gazillion-hour flight from the US. So, my body will probably reject the invitation.

I will think of you though...

Hi Nancy, Great idea about the 8. I'm w/ya on that. It was crazy windy here today, good job on your run...that first step is always the hardest.

I love it... "I ran today. Because. I. Can." .... SO TRUE!

Well, the cold would certainly frighten me away from the task -- you're a more dedicated runner than I!

As someone said to me "They can't all be great." Good on you for doing it.

God this dark is getting to me... I drove home figuring it was super late. Look at the clock, it was 5:15... ack.

Getting in your run AND backing away from the bowl AND corralling a dog!!! You really had a great day.

I know it's off topic, but your comment to Marcy's post today made me laugh so hard. You're a riot. You've changed all of visits to the eye doc for the rest of our lives...

Yeah Nanc! You have doubled your mileage for the month!

Remember...there will be many friends and motivation on Saturday at LHF if you change your mind. You could double your mileage again and get you in great shape for the 8 on the 8th.

nice way to get yourself out the door. Yes I've had those days as well.

Nancy, get out of my head. I changed my blog last night to, Why do I run? Because I can.

Good job getting out there.

Good job being grateful for your ability, in spite of the hacking. Show that cough who is boss!

Yup. The first five minutes are the critical time. And always "bother" :-)

I think we always get your weather a day or day and a half later, so I think it got here today! As for the dog, I had a similar experience with a Sheltie years ago too! The poor thing followed me and wouldn't go back home. Eventually, another dog tagged along, following the Sheltie I suppose, and then we ran by some cows and they started running along with us (in their pen of course). It was getting to be a 3 ring circus. I finally had to take the dog home with me and call the owners, who were a really old couple that had been at church. Those Shelties! But you did yoiur good deed for the day!

That nasty cold, windy weather has made it into Illinois today, too. Ugh. I need to run tonight and am not looking forward to it. I'm going to keep your mantra in my head during the whole thing...I'm doing it "Because I Can"!

Awww, what an inspirational post! I've been all whiny today because it's SO windy and cold, even though it's sunny and beautiful. The trees are amazing right now, with all the leaves changed and we haven't had a big rain yet so the they are still attached. But I don't want to run in this weather. Too freaking bad... I'm getting out there and running because I can.

Thanks for the inspiration today, Nancy!

Great post Nancy. But know this... you are on my list for that little joke about Optometrists that you put on Marcy's blog. Don't think for one second that it went unnoticed. I am currently searching the archives (and there are many I assure you) for all the Pharmacist jokes I can find. Watch your back Non Runner Who Actually Is A Runner Girl.... Optometrists fight dirty and are not above a little mud slinging!

Great job, Nancy -- it's not that easy getting out in the cold, I know! Weirdly, I find that winter running is actually more peaceful and enjoying than hotter weather running. I guess I can't wait until the first snow flurries begin and I can take a leisurely run around the block. Can't wait to hear more about your running!

Great job Nancy....sorry you are still hacking! :(

My gang here is planning on doing the 8 on the 8th...but sadly, I dont think I can. :( It's still up in the air, and I'll definitely try to swing it with my ridiculous schedule. :P

Love the BLOG. I too am getting ready for my 1st marathon. I agree with your reason for running "Because I Can". I also add to that is Because I never could before.

Keep up the great work.
