Monday -
Jerk Stair Master ~ 5 min vo2 max test. ABOVE AVERAGE. You may remember that earlier this year the stair master at the gym actually earned the jerk distinction after telling me that my vo2 max was below average. Proof that persistence and name-calling sometimes pay off.
Bike ~ 13.1 miles
Strength/Weights ~ 25 minutes

Tuesday -
Run ~ 3.1 miles
I got to the gym with limited time (story of my life) and realized I had shoes but no insoles. WTH? I ran without them. Dedicated or moronic? You be the judge. My feet definitely didn't feel right and everything felt weird afterwards. I would not suggest this (likely this advice is really not necessary as most of you are probably smarter than this) nor will I do it again. I had to play lots of games to finish. It was ugly but I did it.

Still struggling with GI issues. It's likely a virus cuz the hub and kids have had a touch of it too, but this is getting ridiculous, and old, very old.

Looking forward to running later today with Amy. :D

In personal news, I took my (oldest) baby to kindergarten round-up. This and him learning to read are freaking me out a little bit. I am excited for him but I hate that he is almost too heavy for me to lift. He's growing up. He says he will always be my baby and will still sit on my lap even when he is way too big. We'll see how long that will last. I'm trying to be secure, insightful, nurturing, understanding and guiding, due to this. No pressure.

The little one told us the other day that he had "so sad eyebrows" in a picture. Hilarious.

Plans for Florida and Scotland trips are progressing nicely. I'm looking forward to both and they should be very different trips although each will include some golf. Also, I am going to take a class at Harvard through work in May. That should be pretty cool and hopefully cool places to run...

Lator Gators.

We're going through the whole Kindergarten registration crap now too. Today we had a dentist visit and we could see the "big" teeth on the x-rays, just waiting to push those baby teeth out. Damn them! I have a love/hate relationship with my kids growing up.

Shoes and insoles are so over rated, as well as vo2 max and stair masters. Good luck with the KIindergarten stuff, before you know it they will be off to college. I am in one of my nice moods today :) NOT.

So you know how I always buy the same brand of running shoes, and how I usually have two pairs on the go. I showed up at the gym with two right feet a while back. I considered running in them.

Glad you won against the stairmaster. :)

I sobbed and sobbed when my oldest went to kinder. I mean like big baby heaving sobs. The other parents looked at me like a freak show.

I would do the same with the insoles...I am just that stubborn.

Woohoo, progress!

I knew you would get a piece of that jerk machine! Great job in your fitness progression. You are so funny with the name calling would pay off.

I am glad the trip are all coming together smoothly, and the Harvard class seems so interesting.

Aww on the kindergarten and learning to read. They grow so fast, but please tell me we are not aging.

No insoles and I would have called it a day. You are dedicated!

Hi Nancy--

Thanks for your comments...and moms are always blamed for everything. I bet you do a fabulous job!

Cranky

Oy, oy, oy I did not want to read that article. Doesn't Mom get enough blame as it is? LOL

I'll probably poop my pants when we actually get to the "big school" part. The first day of preschool was hard enough :-(

Nancy, any chance you will pass through Brooklyn on your way to Scotland? Let's take out the map! Running with no soles huh? I probably would have also!! :O)

Careful going without those inserts. Don't want you hurt again.

I loved the 8 mile picture report. Beautiful!!

I never thought of name calling...I really should try that some time.

As for the class at Harvard. That will be great (from a running perspective anyway). Just give a holler if you need to know where to run, but you really can't go wrong!

Geez - no pressure for moms! For real!

I remember sobbing (the night before we found out I was pregnant with #2) for about 2 hours about how our son was getting big and how sad it was, but how exciting it was to watch him grow and develop . . . but how sad it was . . . and exciting . . . and sad . . . I still feel that way, but am able to express it without the heaving sobs and red, tear stained face. Kindergarten and reading are BIG milestones. Enjoy them, but know it is okay to be sad about it, too. :)

Wow.. Class at Harvard.. should definitely be fun! Hey.. you can run Heartbreak Hill.

Amy said...

They do grow up too fast, but I feel like each age has its own "charms"! (Especially "teenage", which we are just starting to "enjoy" as of late - not!) I guess the bottom line is we should try to enjoy them as much as we can while they are little!

FINALLY looked at the pictures from my 8 miles I ran with you (wink wink). Sure was fun. we need to do that again very soon!!

I had a friend that realized many miles into a trail run that she did not have her sole inserts in. Wild!!!

I've run without one insole ... but by accident. If I had known I would have seen it as a sign from the running gods to go home.

OH MY. that's scary about sending the kid to school. I'm not ready for it. You're doing great, Nancy. Keep up the hard work.

Scotland! Wow! Hubby will be soooo jealous.

Kindergarten. Shoving them in the front door of the factory where, 13 years later, they come out a full grown adult. Both of my kids are currently processing. We have nothing else to feed the system.

Nancy...I just came across your blog. I think it's time you change your header. You ARE a runner and you should be very proud of it! I have been running for 2 and a half years and in that time have completed 11 marathons and 9 half marathons. To this day, it's still hard for me to think of myself as a runner sometimes. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it's the not ever being an athlete in school or something-but it's hard to shake sometimes. I AM a runner now and it looks pretty clear to me you are too! Keep up your good work!

Miss Nancy, I just want to tell you that I think you're ABOVE AVERAGE in, like, nine million different things. The vo2 max test is just number nine million and one!
