My Run on the Strip

What a fun place to run!! Out the door of the Flamingo. I did the "Garmin pose" for about 3 minutes trying to locate satellites. People were wondering, but I'm certainly not the most peculiar thing on the sidewalk. :D
Up the strip, Ceaser's mall and Ceaser's Palace on the left, followed by the Mirage and Treasure Island.
The Palazzo and the Venetian on my right. That Venetian facade really looks like the Duomo in Venice. We'll be going back there later to walk around. Before the Venetian I ran through a cute little open air market with lots of bags and bling and spotted a CSI Las Vegas Tshirt. I was fairly pleased at the uninterrupted path for the most part. At one point, I had to climb a big set of stairs to go up and over the street. I did a Rocky at the top, but wow, that winded me a bit.

Fashion Show is a cool mall with a giant jumbotron outside and that space ship looking overhang. Music there and also fun music when I passed Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville.

I went 1.33 before I turned back. 2.66 miles total. This was a really slow run, because I did have to stop a few times for traffic and to loosen my laces. However, it was very satisfying to be traveling and still be exercising. Also, very fun to get away from the poker table and really SEE some sites. I've been here a few times, but I always enjoy looking around a bit. One really nice improvement I noticed is that EACH way, I saw at least 10 cops on bikes. I told 2 at the end of my run that it was really nice to see their presence all up and down the strip. Also spotted a Shabu Shabu restaurant that I never would have if I hadn't run. We may try it later.
Off to the showers and then back for more poker.

Those stairs that cross the intersections are a killer...running early in the AM in Vegas is always fun, too. Good luck at the poker today. Have fun.

mmmmm. Shabu shabu. Let me know if it's good so I can hit it when I'm there next month. I lived in Japan for two years and haven't had shabu shabu in a long, long time. Vegas is also a fun place for me to eavesdrop on the Japanese tourists. I love seeing just how big their eyes get when I turn around to face them in the buffet lines and join in on their conversations. You can almost see them going over every word they said over the last 10 minutes to see if they said anything about how much food I have on my plate not knowing I understood every word.

I hope you aren't having too much fun. Oh sorry, I hope you ARE having too much fun.

I don't like taking pills at all so I would definitely be interested in possible alternatives.

The strip is barron around sunrise, you can get a great run in and you don't have to go up the stairs. Then you can head off to bed, since you've probably been up all nite if you see a Vegas sunrise.

That does sound like a fun area to run!! Good job getting it done while you are out and traveling!!

We were there a couple of years ago, but in the heat of the summer. Looks like it would be a great place to run without the sweltering heat and crowds, though.

LOL @ the "Garmin pose."

LOL about the "Garmin pose." I do that every time I go out for a run. I bet people think I am crazy, too. ;-)

Hope you're still having fun!

Running in Vegas is a good time. Maybe for your next trip you'll have to plan it around the Vegas Full and Half Marathon so you can run down the middle of the strip :) It's a fun time. Glad to hear you pulled yourself away from poker to see the sites!

If you get a chance, head over to Rum Jungle at Mandalay Bay. Great food, great vibe.

I love running in LV. The lack of humidity ROCKS!!

That's hilarious, The Garmin Pose while you pick up the signal. Yep, that's the new routine for running these days (I don't have one). --Stretch.--

You ready?

Hold on, it's finding a signal.

Wha?

It is great to hear you are having a great time. I have done that exact same run you did at least a few times. It is a little weird running there because there is so much to look at. It is also because someone running down that strip like you or I certainly will get some odd looks from the other people. Exercise?? Never heard of it.

Hope you win big! Way to get a run in while traveling.

So you finally got a signal on the Garmin. Funny, it did not start acting like a slot machine with all the inteference.
I bet it was a interesting run on the strip. Way to get out there!! I think i would have been chained at some blackjack table with someone blowing smoke in my face.

Yeah Nanc! I would have loved to see your Rocky in the middle of that.

I think I can feel the heat oozing through the screen - thanks for sending some warm weather vibes.

I am so jealous! For SO many reasons! Good thing I am more glad that you had a great time than I am that you had it without me.

Now this sounds like fun... and one of the reasons I want to run the Vegas Marathon this year... You start in and run through the whole strip, down the streets and in the lights... I think that would be just a blast.

I am so jealous right now.

I so enjoyed Vegas when we were there. What a neat place to run, even though I was such a cow and didn't do it.
